Life did not start on land but rather in the ocean. The first life forms were relatively simple and initially did not leave any trace in the geological record. The first undisputed evidence of (marine) life is found in Greenland and Australia and has an age of about 3.7 billion-year! Life on earth most likely started somewhat earlier. Since then, life in the sea has evolved from very simple to very complex organisms including fishes. The first fish as we know it today came into existence about 500 million years ago during the period called Cambrian. Since then, a large diversity of fish has evolved. In our webshop, we sell fossil fishes from the famous Green River Formation (USA) and teeth from sharks (megalodon) and enchodus that lived during the Late Cretaceous-Eocene (100-34Ma).
